Joining a gym is an excellent way to accelerate and assist your fitness routine.

One of the key factors to maintaining an exercise program is to enjoy it. If you're not happy at your current fitness centre, or if you've recently moved, we've got few tips to help you find the right gym for you.

Look close to home

A long commute to the gym means you'll be less likely to go, especially when you're running short on time. Use Google Maps and search for nearby fitness centres within a 5km radius of your Edmonton apartment

Decide what's important to you

Figuring out what you need in a gym will help you focus on fitness centres that work for you. If classes and group fitness appeal to you, look for a gym that can accommodate. Some gyms offer childcare or are female-only to provide privacy.

Take a tour

When deciding on a gym, don't be afraid to tour one for an inside look at what you can expect. Go at your regular workout time so you can see it when you'd use it most. Do you feel welcome when you walk in? Are the staff friendly and do the people exercising look like they are enjoying themselves? If you don't feel comfortable just walking through, chances are you won't be comfortable while exercising either.

Try before you buy

Once you find the gym you feel is a right fit, ask for a guest pass and give it a try. Be sure to visit on days and times you would normally be working out and look for cleanliness. Are the machines in good working order and are the staff helpful?

Pay for what you want

Don't be afraid to spend a little more to get all the features and benefits you need. Paying more for what you want is a major motivator that might help you stick to your routine. Look for the gym that satisfies all your wants rather than the one that costs the least.
