Living in Edmonton, there are countless opportunities to explore the beautiful glacier-fed North Saskatchewan River. Our favourite is the annual EPCOR RiverFest, happening this year on August 10th.

During RiverFest locals get the chance to raft or canoe down the North Saskatchewan River, explore free land activities in the river valley, and connect with river-valley related businesses, organizations, and clubs.

The fun begins and ends at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park, just a few minutes from many of our Edmonton apartments. Arrive 15 minutes early for your scheduled ride and a shuttle will transport you to Terwillegar Park to board your watercraft, then you'll paddle along the river and dock back at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park. River travel will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. The shuttle ride and a life preserver are included in your ticket price.

Festival goers can travel the river in a small raft, large raft, or large canoe. The small raft holds up to 4 adults and one child, the large raft holds up to 16 people, and the large canoe holds 18 people. Children must be at least 6 years old and weigh over 30lbs to participate.

Tickets are selling quickly, so book your timeslot and purchase your tickets for your preferred boating experience. Small groups will be paired so vessels are filled. There are no solo riders permitted; however, private groups of two can ride the small raft if all four seats are booked together.

Things to remember:

  • There is a chance you will get wet! Light clothing and water shoes are recommended.

  • Floats happen rain or shine.

  • No alcohol or pets permitted in boats.

  • Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a guardian.

  • No offensive or unsafe behaviour.

  • Water guns and other weapons are not permitted on the river or in the water.

  • All participants must sign a rafting waiver.

After your river ride, visit one of the many food trucks at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park and enjoy plenty of fun activities including: a Segway obstacle course from River Valley Adventures, fitness challenges from Edmonton Trail Runners, scavenger hunts from Parks Canada, and ENCOR by EPCOR will host free face painting and a photo booth.
