If you need a new place to live but are struggling with the idea of finding an apartment during a pandemic, we're here to help.

While apartment hunting feels different during these times, it's still safe when health and safety protocols are followed.

The beginning of your search will look and feel just like it did prior to the pandemic. Start by determining what you need in an apartment. Then create a budget to establish how much money you can allocate for rent.

Begin your search online. Use filters to refine your search so you're only looking at apartments that tick off all your boxes. Rely on photos and other digital media to narrow down your choices even before you see any apartments in person.

Before booking an appointment to visit a suite, drive by the building to check out the area. Visiting at different times of the day and on weekends will give you a sense of what the neighbourhood is really. To respect the health and safety precautions others are taking at this time, don't approach the building, try to talk to neighbours, or ask for a tour without scheduling one ahead of time.

After driving by your top picks, you should feel confident in booking an appointment. Please remember property management companies and superintendents need extra notice to schedule viewings. While on the phone, ask the manager as many questions as you can think of.

When arriving for your tour, put on your face mask and follow the instructions on entering provided to you by the manager. Sanitize your hands prior to entering the building and avoid touching any surfaces unless necessary. Don't take off your mask until you've left the building and sanitized your hands.
