Rediscover the joy of winter at the Silver Skate Festival in Edmonton. Head down to William Hawrelak Park between February 11th and 21st for the longest running free winter festival in Edmonton.

Winter is magic in Edmonton; we encourage you to explore everything there is to see and do at the Silver Skate Festival this year.

There are events and live music planned for each day of the festival. This is your chance to explore the River Valley while enjoying sporting events, art displays, and interactive activities. Additionally, there are challenges to participate in and a variety of prizes to be won.

For 30 years, the Silver Skate Festival has been creating winter experiences for all. It began as an annual skating event inspired by Dutch winter traditions and has evolved into an all-embracing celebration of art, music, recreation, and sports.

Join in the fun as Hawrelak Park, minutes from our Birchview Apartments, transforms into a winter oasis with fun activities for the whole family. Take part in the fun activities and track your progress with an online activity form. Guests are encouraged to check off as many activities as they can during the festival. Share your experience with the festival on social media for a chance to win additional prizes. The grand prize is a Via Rail Canada adventure for two, valued at $1,500.

Participate in winter ball hockey and jam-can curling; challenges like the Mammoet Winter Triathlon and the virtual skate races; winter activities including snowshoeing, skating, and ice climbing; along with live music and performances. Additionally, you can see the mesmerizing phenomenon of fire sculptures, vote on your favourite snow sculpture, or enjoy a winter movie.

There’s also an opportunity to support local businesses by buying a Celebrate Edmonton Surprise bag for either $25, $50, $100, or $150. Each bag includes items from over thirty-five local businesses in Edmonton. This is a wonderful way to experience products and services from local businesses you may not be familiar with.

This festival is perfect for families, date nights, or anyone wishing to enjoy the outdoors this winter. As with any event, COVID protocols will be followed and attendees are expected to have a mask to wear as needed, sanitize hands when required, maintain physical distance, and stay home if unwell.
