When you move into an apartment at Ayre & Oxford Inc., your new home will have freshly painted neutral walls, but doesn't mean you have to conform to neutral décor.

We want our residents to feel at home and decorate their apartments in a way that suits their personality and tastes. To help, we've found some simple ways residents can spice up your apartment with bright colours.

When adding bold and bright colours, be conservative - about 20% of your décor should be colourful while 80% remains neutral. Different colours have different effects, so think about how you use the room before picking your colours. Warm colours (reds, oranges, yellows) are intimate and can make a room feel cozy while cool colours (greens, blues, purples) are calming and give the illusion of more space.

Here are three great ways spice up your apartment with colour:

1. Colour your walls

Painting the walls a bright colour is often a no-no while living in an apartment, so we suggest breaking up those neutral walls with a colourful focal point. For a dramatic result, try bold window coverings. Bright ceiling to floor curtains will create a dynamic focal point. More conservative results can be achieved by decorating one wall with temporary wallpaper, large canvas art, or a tapestry.

2. Colour your accessories

Another great way to add that brightness to your apartment is through your decor accessories. Go for bold, colourful throw pillows, blankets, and furniture accent pieces. If you want to make a bigger statement, go with a boldly coloured couch and add neutral, textured pillows. Outside of your living room, consider updating a bookcase, shelving or storage unit by painting or papering the panels.

3. Colour your floor

Rugs are a great way to add colour and texture to a room. Even if your floors are carpeted, an area rug can be a great addition and will also help keep the integrity of the main carpet. When adding colour to your floor, choose a rug that has a bold colour pattern and if you can find one that also has some texture to it, even better!

Be Bold. Be Daring. Spice up your décor with bright colours.

Have fun and remember, it's your space so the design should reflect your tastes!
